The younger we are when we begin to explore the world around us the more we will respect it. This shortened day program will be a great introduction to the out of doors for our youngest adventurers. In a small group setting the “Sunflowers” will stay at our Southwick base camp and will have the opportunity to make new friends, do nature-based craft projects, play games, build self-confidence and get a little bit dirty! Our staff are comprised of experienced outdoor educators and preschool teachers. Please send your little one with a mid-morning snack!
9am - 1pm

Based out of our Southwick camp location, Chipmunks will head out each day to explore the Greater Westfield area. Their field trips will lead them to parks, wooded areas, and streams where they will be able to get wet, dirty, and muddy as they play and work together in the out of doors. Chipmunks can expect to spend the week hiking, playing cooperative games, learning team building activities, swimming, climbing our high ropes course, stream-hiking, snorkeling and more. Our professional wilderness leader staff know just how to balance fun, excitement, and education in their outdoor classroom. In addition to a jam-packed week of safe outdoor activities, we provide 1+ group swimming lessons per week and a daily afternoon snack for our Chipmunks.

Pathfinders are sure to go home every day tired, dirty and spilling over with stories about their day at camp. Pathfinders are kept busy and are on the move to a new locale each day. Our staff pride themselves in their ability to keep each day, and each week, at camp new, exciting and different than the last. Pathfinders activities could include: kayaking, canoeing, hiking, snorkeling, high and low challenge ropes course, stream hiking, group initiatives, cooperative games and challenges, primitive skills, biking, swimming and more! We keep our groups small by choice so that each child leaves the week having built lasting friendships with not only fellow campers but their staff as well!

By far one of our favorite weeks. A day split between swimming and outdoor exploration. In the pool we will help kids build endurance, improve stroke technique, and truly fall in love with this lifelong sport. After swim practice we'll get back to W.E.U.'s outdoor adventure roots to climb our ropes course, explore hiking trails, and kayak on a beautiful lake.
*Swimmers must be able to pass a pre-requisite swim test, inquire with the office to schedule an evaluation if you are unsure your swimmer is ready.
1. Swim 40 yards independently, 20 of which must be front crawl.
2. Tread water for 30 seconds.
3. Jump into pool, establish back float and hold for 30 seconds.
The Pioneer program was designed for the older, experienced camper. Pioneers will work together to overcome some harder, more age-appropriate challenges. Goal-setting, as individuals and as a group, is an important focus during the week. Your young adventurer will go home every day at 4:00 wishing they were signed up for the overnight Explorer program! Activities could include, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, snorkeling, climbing our high ropes course, rock climbing, orienteering, stream hiking, low rope initiatives, biking, cooperative games/challenges, primitive skills, fishing, swimming & more!
ALL Pioneer programs in 2019 have a ‘One Night Overnight’ for the entire group. This will be a great way for kids to get a taste as to what our ‘Explorer’ Program is all about. You’ll drop them off Thursday at 9 am and will pick them up Friday at 4 pm. The group will sleep in tents, cook their meals over an open fire and enjoy the magic of the woods at night time.
